Evangelical Christian Universities

Since the 1970’s, the explosive growth of evangelical Christianity in the Latin world has inspired the formation of a new crop of academic institutions.  A few became well-established universities testifying to a Christian presence in their society, imitating an older crop of institutions founded by the historical Protestant churches.  A good dozen held to a more decidedly Christian flavor and tended to struggle to gain recognition, property, and the earmarks of quality that the Academy expects.  In 1996 and 1999 Semilla convened the rectors of this last segment to compare notes, learn from one another, and attempt to crystallize a common vision.
